Stealing people’s belongings on their arrival, which is what this new policy on illegal migration does, does seem a grim policy tbh. Imo anyway.
The level of fear driven debate on migration is at a fever pitch, if the government removes the weekly allowance from asylum seekers, surely it then makes sense to allow them to work. Imagine joining the Labour Party to rob asylum seekers of their belongings.
If you take the morality issues with the Danish policy on migration issues out of it for a minute.
Rejoining the EU might help, given Denmark which Mahmood’s policy is modelled on is in. Plus they are also ECHR members still. Part of this issue is down to Keir Starmer’s cowardice on the EU issue I’m afraid.
Though the jewellery theft policy is gimmicky, also why not let asylum seekers work in construction where there are labour shortages atm, might smooth community relations and show ‘some’ people that they are people at the end of the day and not to be treated like animals and described as such by some of the white W/C.
Someone needs to tell the Conservatives/Labour that Denmark somehow do this from within the EU and ECHR.
