Centre ground Pro Europeanism shouldn’t always be associated with Liberalism or the left, there just happens to be no Centre to Centre right Pro European Party to vote for atm. Though ironically on a ideological level Labour is somehow getting to that point. This is probably helped by the fact that Shabana Mahmood is taking a tougher line on controlling immigration in comparison to Labour’s left.
As long as Starmer somehow survives after the May elections and Rayner and Burnham are kept out. Burnham is too left wing and Rayner is Rayner who’s credibility is blown in the mind of the public over her tax issues. Labour still have a strange fascination because of social class stuff.
